Experimental Music Video Workshop examines the music video as a cultural artifact and, controversially, inheritor of experimental film practices. Students explore the history of the format and its many precursors in experimental and underground film, as well as in advertising design and the music industry itself. After a thorough examination of the recording industry, musical genres and traditions, performance technique and documentation, students create several music videos, focusing on Performance Video, Experimental Video, and Narrative/Concept Video. Students are encouraged to contact and collaborate with musicians, vocalists, and artists in their local scene.
