This course looks at the history of film, video, cinema and media art from a variety of angles and points of view. While this course gives in no way a comprehensive overview of film and media making, it attempts to show the breadth and porous borders of an evolving and ready to be re-written history. Local Bay Area films, videos and media installations are highlighted as are works from many different corners of the world. Every class session is organized around a theme, genre or cultural territory. That said, the course doesn’t try to divide the world of film and video into neat little boxes. It’s a mess. Let’s check it out.
