During the course, we will define avatars and how they can be used to create new forms of expression and identity. We will examine their history, from their origins to their modern-day manifestations in video games and extended realities.

The class will primarily focus on proposing and designing avatar design systems utilizing new media, analog tools, and speculative design. We will consider avatars' cultural and social implications, such as their role in shaping our online identities and their potential to facilitate empathy.

We will explore the use of avatars in different contexts, such as gaming, social media, and online communities, and consider how avatars can be used to create new forms of art, storytelling, and communication.
