Sculpture Mentorship

Description:

Mentorship is structured by individual meetings with Sculpture Program faculty, with an emphasis on independent studio practice. The course is open to all CCA juniors and seniors interested in developing their ideas in relation to an interdisciplinary, expanded approach to sculpture. Students in the course meet as a group at the beginning, middle, and end of the semester. Otherwise, students meet one-on-one with a Sculpture faculty member approximately every two weeks to develop an independent body of work. There are no class project assignments or set readings, however an agreement is developed between the student and teacher at the outset of the course regarding individual goals, proposed works, potential readings, research, etc.

Sculpture Workshop: Immersive Participatory Space

Description:

Sculpture Workshop: Immersive Participatory Space explores how we can extend the idea of sculpture beyond making an object. Through a presentation of work, we can possibly shape people’s experiences of space, time, personal and social relationships. The class will focus on how object-making transcends its capacity into space making, and how space-making becomes experience-making. We will tap into a wide range of human perceptions more than the visual by encouraging students to use space, sound, light, scent, food, air, body movement, etc. Also, we will also learn how sculpture practices have touched the shaping of social space and interactions.
